Aron Embry was so excited when he made a call on his Motorola Droid 2 phone, that it literally exploded on his ear. As he ended a call, the phone 'popped' loudly. He pulled the phone away, he felt blood dripping from his ear, and the screen of the phone was cracked.
Aron went to the doctor where he received stitches, but had no hearing damage. The Motorola Droid 2 just launched in August, making it a new phone... so the cause of the problem is unclear.
Motorola is denying that the phone could have exploded. They claim it couldn't have 'exploded' as it only the display was cracked, but the phone was still operational and intact. Certainly an interesting subject... what do you guys think? I've never heard of 'exploding phones' before, save a iPhone cases in Europe that were few and far between.

That's pretty crazy to say the least at the same time it's very scary.
I've never even heard of such a thing. Hopefully this is a one time occurrence.
Pretty gnarly if you ask me. I would say this is a one time thing specialy since its a launch from August. Factory defect I would say. Though you would think Motorola would give them an even exchange for the item none the less
I agree with Motorola that it didn't explode. That term is exaggerating the issue. Clearly there was some malfunction that caused it to bust, blasting fragments of the display, but not an explosion.
Well, that's not new. Also, that's why i don't buy high end phones.
Another reason to use headset.
this will all disappear and the guy it happened to is gonna be so rich he'll deny it ever happened
I love my Android phone. This better be just a freak incident. Im guessing the pure awesomeness of the Droid was way to much for Aron to handle. His ear must have had a violent rupture so powerful that it cracked the screen. The flimsy screen was obviously caused not from a fault on the manufacture's end, but more likely from the Superior Aliens trying to take this marvel of technology from an inferior's hands.
hahaha :D
I've heard of phone lithium ion batteries exploding like incediary bombs, but noting like this.
Phone companies tend to be quick at taking information like this away from the public and covering it up nicely.
love the title/pic
Another reason to keep my old phone. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
that must have hurt
hahahahahaha cmon
If that's true it's crazy!
That's a little terrifying, and yet I might have to side with Motorola on the fact it couldn't have "exploded" for the fact that functional and electronics damage would have occurred; however it seems possible their might be some defect with the case design itself that might make it less resistant to certain stresses?
Smells like a "finger in my coffee" scam.
EW! Thats insane.
followin you :D visit me
That is scary ; ;
